Starting

I have a hopelessly romantic view of travel to new places and as the finishing touches of this trip came together over the weekend I did some of my running about under skies illuminated by an almost full moon. Coming back home I quickly looked up the lunar calendar and learned that the full moon was this past Tuesday and that would mean that though this trip would be in the waning phase of this moon we would still have the opportunity to ride under the light of the moon.

We are leaving St. Louis at three on Friday morning and I was looking forward to thundering west and winking back at the man on the moon in the time before the fingers of the rising sun wiped away the darkness of the night. Well the reality of it is the weather man is calling for overnight rain in St. Louis so, instead, we will be hunkered down behind our windshields.

Oh well, maybe we will see the moon when we are out in the desert. For now, off to work for a few hours before I begin reeling in the horizon.
